Tesoro Maya has a fabulous selection of vintage and modern/new huipiles. I have bought 4 from them. They are an antidote to modern corporate clothing and a pervasive sense of emptiness: the tops are handmade on looms and involve hours and weeks if not months of intense embroidery. Sometimes the embroidery tells a story or represents some of the important aspects of indigenous communities (animals, flowers, cosmology, etc.) When you wear them you cannot help but feel a deep presence of ancestors, sister-friends and love for the natural world. Angelica runs a business that nourishes artisans and spreads Guate-love and vibrancy through every article sold in her shop, but the huipil is extra special bc of all the hand work, intention, history and artistry involved. I live
in the ones I have purchased all summer long!
