This is a spectacular, authentic Huipil from Chajul, Quiche Guatemala.
This pre-loved top was hand-woven on a back-strap loom with "Aleman" cotton in a Dessert Sand/Tan base. Please note that this top is a lot heavier than our traditional Chajul tops that are super soft and light. This top is 100% cotton.
This stunning Huipil has a woven-embroidered design ofMayan birds in the front and back. In the Maya culture, peacocks are a sign of spirituality. Their noble nature and musical colors will hold special meaning to someone who is in tune with their inner spirit or searching for peace within themselves. Great piece to add to your ethical wardrobe!

Condition: Generally good vintage condition with a some loose threads and wear. The bottom part has some loose threads but does not affect the structure of the blouse. Also, please note that the bottom parts are uneven. The Mayan woman wear these shirts underneath a skirt so the bottoms are never seen. This blouses has lived a previous life and therefore shows some signs of age and loose thread but has no holes or repairs and is in remarkably good condition. Also note that after many washes, there are some spots that came through the photos but not really visible in person.
This vintage Huipil was personally purchased by Angelica, founder of Tesoros Maya fromJuana. This Huipil was ethically sourced and the artisan was paid fair price.
This Huipil was made by female artisans in Guatemala; hand-woven and hand-embroidered. This top is 100% cotton and showcases Maya iconography, an example of wildlife and geometric figures that have significance cultural relevance to the Maya community.
This Huipil was 100% handmade from beginning to end; therefore naturally there will be some imperfections. You could see some loose threads, DO NOT pull just snip with scissors.
