This is a spectacular, authentic Huipil from Chajul, Quiche Guatemala.

Vintage and hand-woven on a back-strap loom with 100% cotton, it features a White base. This particular blouse is silky soft and one of our favorite tops to wear in the summer time for it's lightness.

This stunning Huipil has a woven-embroidered design of double-headed eagles. The double headed eagle in Maya mythology represents the Great God with two faces, one looking to good and the other to evil, or to heaven and earth. It is a common figure of protection in the Mayan culture. Great piece to add to your ethical wardrobe!
**Please review measurements below to ensure proper fit. All sales are final.**
Measurements on flat surface:
  • This Huipil will fit a LARGE frame
  • Bust (armpit to armpit): 27" inches wide
  • Length: 24" inches long
  • Arm Opening:8" inches
  • This Huipil is closed at the sides
  • Condition: Generally good vintage condition with a some loose threads and wear. The bottom part has some loose threads but does not affect the structure of the blouse. Also, please note that the bottom parts are uneven. The Mayan woman wear these shirts underneath a skirt so the bottoms are never seen. This blouses has lived a previous life and therefore shows some signs of age and loose thread but has no holes or repairs and is in remarkably good condition.
  • This vintage Huipil was personally purchased by Angelica, founder of Tesoros Maya from Juana. This Huipil was ethically sourced and the artisan was paid fair price.
  • Please note: The entire piece is genuine hand woven and hand embroidered. Many Huipiles are now embroidered using sewing machine which can also be referred to as 'hand made'. This piece is made entirely without the use of machine.

  • This Huipil was 100% handmade from beginning to end; therefore naturally there will be some imperfections. You could see some loose threads, DO NOT pull just snip with scissors.
