Product Details

Wear the most stunning textiles over your mask or as a face covering while at the same time supporting Guatemalan weavers during this crisis.

This stunning textile was made on a back-strap loom (a traditional Maya loom) from our artisan partners at Maya Traditions Foundation in Panajachel, Guatemala. The back-strap loom is traditionally worked by women (while foot looms imported by the Spaniards during the conquest are worked by men). The 49 indigenous weavers that Maya Traditions employs work divided into 6 groups, and each group lives in a different community between Sololá and Quiché departments.

This face mask was made by re-purposing the remnants of previous textile productions, an intersection of safety and sustainability.

Your purchase of our exclusive designed masks allows Maya Traditions to continue their mission in providing the weavers sustainable work and income while the entire country of Guatemala is experiencing lockdowns and unemployment during this pandemic. Supporting our artisan partners during this vulnerable and uncertain time is crucial.

Thank you for your purchase!
